Lights of christmas 2017 - animation assets

In October 2017, Giles Westley at AGB Events contacted me regarding St Marys Cathedral's Lights of Christmas projection - I was thrilled to be commissioned to paint a series of fun/whimsical characters and assets for different scenes to be animated in a short story called "The Gift of Time", a journey that demonstrates the importance of putting down technology devices and taking time to appreciate your surroundings, your friends, and your family. - It was delightful to collaborate with AGB's super talented team! - :) - and so wonderful to see my paintings animated on such a large scale!

Deliverables:

Watercolour paintings of:

  • 8 characters prepared for animation with arms and legs separated from their bodies
  • A series of buildings
  • A series of trees & plants
  • A series of textured backgrounds

This is Griffin, every time he walks across St Marys my heart melts!!

Griffin after I re-assembled his body in Photoshop! It was a strange process to paint all the body parts separately for AGB...

Griffin's early sketch and his cohort of funny birds...

Other characters to create a city crowd obsessed with their digital gizmos included (from top): Uni dude & skater girl, stress head, 2 business ladies and 2 lycra clad, fitbit mad exercice addicts!

Some paintings were inspired by Sydney's beautiful buildings like the QVB & Centre Point, others were imaginary...

This painting of St Marys is not part of the show, but instead features on a little souvenir puzzle. I loved painting a colourful/fun version of Centre Point!

Some of the plants I painted for the park scene on the city's edge.

I experimented with different medias to create a variety of textures for the trees backgrounds.
