Emerald Beach House 1 is situated in a suburban beach suburb, the site backs onto a bush reserve & creek – the development comprises 2 pavilions – due to site restrictions all living areas are on the upper level - the front pavilion addresses the street & is an office / studio - the back pavilion, main house, is a long narrow building allowing all bedrooms & living areas to opens out to the north east deck & forest aspect – highlight windows & bevelled eaves give the roof a floating feel – a tiered planter grounds the building & allows for no balustrade floating the deck off into the nearby trees – a simple palette of materials was used, hoop plywood floors & joinery provide a light warm feel to upper level, lightly polished concrete lower level floors give a low maintenace / no fuss finish, externally banded concrete blocks combine with western red cedar cladding & painted acrylic render.
